There is something impossibly sweet about a baby's first birthday. One whole year of firsts — first smiles, first steps, first giggles — and suddenly your tiny newborn is a fully blossomed little person with opinions, personality, and the most contagious joy you have ever seen. When Alessia's family came to Tiny Bliss Photography in McLean, Virginia to celebrate her very first birthday, we knew we were in for something beautiful. They chose a dreamy wildflower garden theme bursting with sunflowers, soft lavender blooms, and the warmest golden tones — and little Alessia was absolutely radiant in every single frame.
The Setup
We designed Alessia's wildflower birthday session around a gorgeous warm palette that felt like a summer garden in full bloom. A lush balloon garland in soft lavender, yellow, peach, and pearl formed the backdrop, accented with clusters of vibrant sunflowers and delicate wildflowers tucked into rustic wooden crates. A glittering gold number ONE and a soft white scripted "One" sign framed the scene perfectly on either side.
Alessia wore not one but two absolutely gorgeous outfits throughout the session — a dreamy floral embroidered tulle dress in soft cream for the portrait portion, and a sweet blush daisy print ruffle dress for the cake smash. She looked like she had stepped straight out of a wildflower meadow, and she wore every bit of it with the confidence of a birthday queen.
The Session
From the moment Alessia arrived she owned that studio. She explored every corner of the set with wide curious eyes, reached for the gold number one prop, and settled into the most beautiful poses as if she had done this a hundred times before. Her expressive eyes — big, dark, and full of wonder — were absolutely captivating through the lens.
One of our favorite moments was when we placed a bright yellow sunflower in her tiny hands. She held it so gently, studying it with pure fascination, and then looked straight into the camera with that slow little smile that melts every heart in the room. Pure magic.

The Cake Smash
When it was time for the cake smash, Alessia was ready. We switched her into her adorable blush daisy print dress — a perfect complement to the sunflower backdrop — and brought out her beautiful birthday cake decorated with roses and colorful swirls. At first she approached it thoughtfully, inspecting the icing with careful little fingers. Then, in the most perfect one-year-old fashion, she dove right in — frosting on her cheeks, wonder in her eyes, and the biggest smile on her face.
Watching that transition from cautious to joyful is one of our absolute favorite parts of every cake smash session. It never gets old.
