When Abbey's family came to Tiny Bliss Photography in McLean, Virginia to celebrate her very first birthday, the magic in the room was absolutely undeniable. With a breathtaking fairy garden theme and the sweetest family portraits to start, this session was everything a first birthday should be — full of love, wonder, and pure joy.
The Family Session
We began Abbey's celebration with a beautiful family mini session against our soft white studio backdrop. Abbey's parents dressed perfectly for the occasion — mom in an elegant blush tiered dress and dad in a relaxed teal floral shirt — and little Abbey stole the show in the most gorgeous pink tulle dress adorned with delicate butterflies.
The warmth and love between this family radiated through every single frame. From tender moments of mom and dad gazing at their girl to Abbey's wide curious eyes taking in the world, these portraits are timeless keepsakes this family will treasure for generations.
Abbey's First Birthday Milestone Portraits
After our family portraits, it was Abbey's time to shine on her own! We set up a gorgeous milestone scene featuring a glowing marquee number one, a lush arrangement of blush peonies, eucalyptus greenery, and soft feather accents. Abbey in her butterfly tulle dress looked absolutely like a little princess — and her expressions were everything.
She gave us the most beautiful mix of curious wonder and pure delight, exploring every detail of her birthday setup with those big bright eyes. These milestone portraits capture exactly who Abbey is at one year old — inquisitive, joyful, and full of personality.
The Fairy Garden Theme
For her cake smash, Abbey's family chose the most enchanting fairy garden theme and we absolutely fell in love with every detail. The backdrop featured whimsical fairy cottage doors adorned with floral arches, illustrated fairy characters, and winding greenery — creating a scene straight out of a storybook.
A lush garland of eucalyptus lined the floor, while a dreamy balloon arch in soft peach, pink, sage green, and gold floated above. The entire set felt like stepping into a magical garden where fairies truly live — the perfect setting for our little birthday fairy, Abbey.
The Cake Smash
Abbey's birthday cake was a true work of art — a stunning pink floral cake decorated with blooming roses, delicate flowers, and a sweet rainbow topper that perfectly matched the fairy garden palette. At first Abbey was cautious and thoughtful, taking in the beauty of her cake from every angle. And then — she went for it! Those first little tastes brought out the most priceless expressions, and the frosting on her face just made everything even more adorable.
We also included an adorable bubble bath finale in our mini studio bathtub — one of our favorite ways to wrap up a cake smash session! Abbey splashing around with her little rubber duck was pure magic.
